Low Tuition Universities in Turkey with Tuition Fees Ranging from $700 – $1,500

One of the obvious reasons international students choose to study in Turkey is its low tuition universities with affordable Tuition fees, and the cost of living which are significantly lower than in most European countries, yet the quality of education is still high. Another interesting thing is there are scholarships available that cover not only tuition fees but accommodation, insurance and perhaps travel costs.

Turkey is fast becoming one of the selected places for a study abroad education. Turkey is bordered by eight countries with Greece and Bulgaria to the northwest; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, the Azerbaijan and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the south. The country is encircled by seas on three sides with the Aegean Sea to the west, the Black Sea to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

To study in Turkey, the academic year in Turkey is based on two semesters and runs from October until June.

Language of Instruction in Turkish Universities 

Programs at state universities are generally taught in Turkish, although some programs are taught in English, German or French. Students not proficient in Turkish who enter Turkish programs can take one year of language training before pursuing their studies.

Most international programs are taught at private universities, where the language of instruction is mostly English. Private universities are also known as foundation universities.

1. Istanbul Teknik Üniversitesi (Istanbul Technical University), commonly referred to as ITU is an international technical university located in Istanbul, Turkey. It is the world’s third-oldest technical university dedicated to engineering sciences as well as social sciences recently, and is one of the most prominent educational institutions in Turkey.

2. Orta Dogu Teknik Üniversitesi-

Middle East Technical University (commonly referred to as METU- is a public technical university located in Ankara, Turkey. The university puts special emphasis on research and education in engineering and natural sciences.

3. Istanbul Üniversitesi- (Istanbul University) is a prominent Turkish university located in Istanbul. The university has seventeen faculties on five campuses; the main campus being on Beyazıt Square.

4. Anadolu Üniversitesi- (Anadolu University) is a public university in Eskişehir. Anadolu University was created in 1982 from the union of four existing higher education institutes in Eskişehir: the Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences of Eskişehir, the State Academy of Architecture and Engineering, the Institute of Education, and a medical school.

Tuition Fees in Turkey

The tuition fee in most Turkish universities are very affordable. Though, the fees varies. International student tuition per semester at state universities where instruction is in Turkish is about $300-$600 (US). Tuition is about 1.5 to 2 times higher at state institutions where instruction is in English.

Health Insurance

All universities offer free health care at their medical facilities. However, this care is generally limited to emergency services and treatment for minor conditions, so international students are encouraged to purchase health insurance to cover other medical expenses that may arise. The policy should cover both European and Asian Turkey. Many private insurance policies are available in Turkey
