Cost of Living
The cost of living in Serbia can amount to or surpass $1,500 per month depending on your lifestyle. This amount covers feeding, accommodation, transportation and other expenses.
Tuition Fees
Studies of Serbian residents at public institutions (both universities and colleges) can either be financed by the State or the students pay tuition for their studies. Students who study at private higher education institutions pay fees as determined by the higher education institution.
Foreign students pay tuition for their studies and in some cases there is a difference between the fee amount paid by local and foreign students.
The tuition fee is determined by the institution and is usually within a range from EUR500 to EUR2500 per year.
Standard Requirement to Study Bachelor or Integrated Study Programs
The standard requirement to study Bachelor and integrated study programs is the completion of a four-year high school education and passing the entrance exam. Specific admission prerequisites usually entail the specific knowledge in certain disciplines and should be checked for the particular program a student is interested in.
Entrance exams are usually held in early July and early September (for the institutions which still have open places for students). Note that the ranking of applicants for admissions would depend on both the entrance exam and the success from their previous level of education.
Basic Requirements to Enrol for Masters Program
For Master programmes lasting one year a candidate has to have obtained Bachelor diploma.
For Master programmes lasting two years a candidate has to have obtained Bachelor diploma. Admission requirements vary from programme to programme (usually regarding the area of previous education) and should be checked on the web pages with information on specific programs.
Basic Requirements to Enrol for Doctoral Studies
Basic requirement to enrol doctoral studies is that the candidate has successfully completed a Master programme and obtained at least 300 ECTS. Also, additional requirements, such as a minimum grade point average, published papers, etc. are determined by the institution and are presented at the pages of the specific doctoral study programmes.
Language of Instruction
The principal language of instruction is Serbian for all educational levels. There are also study programs which are accredited in foreign languages, mostly in English, and in many universities and colleges there are additional possibilities for foreign exchange students, such as organizing consultations with professors in English, etc.
