This is a review of Latest Admission Requirements for International Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD Students at the Universities in Austria.
There are over-growing numbers of degree programs which you can choose from in Austrian universities. Also, you can choose between first-class research-based courses, a world-famous education at any of the universities of the arts, high-quality practice-based degree courses at the universities of applied sciences, and sound teacher education and innovative courses at private universities.
Arriving at Austria, you may be surprised with their common language – German if you are from an English speaking country. Considering this fact, one may wonder how international education is possible, knowing fully well that many international students can’t speak German. It might interest you to know that there are numerous courses taught in English. This enables the flow of English speaking international students to Austria.
Undergraduate entry Requirements/First cycle studies (bachelor’s)
International students are needed to be a holder of
- A valid secondary/high school result
- A language proficiency result either in German or English
Postgraduate (Masters) entry Requirements/
Similarly, postgraduate or better still, students for master’s programmes are not exempted from showing their qualifications –
- A relevant bachelor’s or equivalent degree diploma.
Doctorate (Ph. D) Entry Requirements
Students applying for doctoral programmes must be in possession of
- A relevant diploma or master’s degree diploma.
Language requirements for studies at universities in Austria
German
International students who are going to be instructed during their courses in German are required to present proof of German Proficiency. German language courses diplomas, such as the Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache für ausländische Studienbewerber– TestDaF is accepted.
Please, note that the German language requirement usually applies to studies at the first cycle (undergraduate). Master’s and research programs may not require any knowledge of German if they are designed for international students.
English
Also, international students that will be taking their courses in English are needed to show test results received from any recognized English course in order to proof that they know the language very well.
